Terms of service

The rules for every job, written in plain English. Booking a service, dropping off a device, or approving a quote means you've read and agree to these terms.

Effective October 25, 2026Side Quest PCs · Spring Hill, Tennessee
The short version
  • Nothing beyond the diagnostic is done or charged until you approve a quote.
  • Back up your data and know your passwords and BitLocker key before drop-off. I'm careful, but I'm not responsible for data loss.
  • Labor is warranted for 30 days. Parts carry the manufacturer's warranty. Liquid-damaged devices aren't warrantied.
  • Pay at pickup. Devices not picked up within 14 days of notice start storage fees, and after 60 days they're considered abandoned.

01Who we are & key terms

Side Quest PCs ("we," "us," "I") is a home-based technology service run by Scott in Spring Hill, Tennessee. "You" means the person or business that books a service or brings in a device, photos, or project. These terms apply to every service on this website, whether you drop off, use pickup and return, or book on-site or remote work.

  • "Device" means the computer, console, phone, or other equipment you bring in or ask me to work on, including its hardware, software, and anything connected to it.
  • "Data" means your files, photos, email, settings, and any other information stored on a Device or connected storage, apart from the operating system itself.
  • Side Quest PCs is not an authorized service provider for Apple, Microsoft, Dell, HP, Sony, Nintendo, or any other manufacturer. Opening or repairing a Device may void its manufacturer warranty. If your Device is still under warranty, check with the manufacturer first. I'm not responsible for voided manufacturer warranties.

02Ownership & authorization

  • You confirm that you own each Device or are authorized by the owner to approve service on it.
  • Devices are released only to the person who dropped them off or to someone you name in writing, by text or email, ahead of time. I may ask for ID at pickup.
  • For business work, the person approving the work confirms they're authorized to act for the business.

03Diagnostics, quotes & scope

  • Diagnostic fee. Repairs start with a $60 diagnostic. If you approve the repair, it's credited toward the cost. If you decline, it's due at pickup.
  • Approved work only. I perform only the work you approve. After diagnosis, I'll text or email the problem and the price, and no further work happens until you approve it in writing.
  • Changes in scope. If I find another problem during a repair, or the job will cost more than quoted, I stop and ask before continuing.
  • Not worth fixing. If a repair would cost more than the Device is worth, I'll tell you. You pay only the diagnostic.
  • Timing. Most repairs are ready the next day, but every completion time is an estimate. Parts availability, shipping, manufacturer or vendor delays, and extra problems found during the repair can all extend it.

04Your data & backups

  • You're responsible for backups. Back up all your Data before any service. Hardware can fail during diagnosis or repair, and some work, such as reinstalling Windows or macOS, erases Data by design.
  • Data loss. By the nature of repair work, Data can be damaged or lost, sometimes in ways that aren't obvious right away. Side Quest PCs is not responsible for lost or damaged Data, software, or settings, whatever the cause.
  • Backup service. If you can't back up your Device yourself, I can copy your files first for an extra fee. I'll make a reasonable effort, but I can't guarantee any backup will be complete or successful, especially from a failing drive.
  • Data recovery. I don't offer professional recovery from failed or physically damaged drives. If you need it, I can refer you to a specialist lab.

05Encryption, passwords & account locks

  • Repairs, upgrades, and updates can trigger BitLocker, FileVault, or other encryption and security lockouts. These are built into the operating system and aren't caused by the repair itself.
  • You're responsible for providing your device password, encryption recovery key, and any account sign-ins the repair needs. Your BitLocker key is usually stored in your Microsoft account. Look it up before drop-off.
  • I'm not responsible for lost Data or delays caused by missing, wrong, or unavailable passwords or recovery keys.
  • Change any password you shared with me once the work is done.

06Privacy

  • I don't browse your personal files. Some incidental access is unavoidable, such as confirming your files transferred or testing that programs open, and you consent to that access.
  • I don't copy, keep, or share your Data. Temporary backups made for a repair are deleted once the job is picked up and confirmed working, unless you ask otherwise.
  • If I encounter content that appears illegal, such as child sexual abuse material, or evidence of other serious crimes, I will stop work and report it to law enforcement.

07Software, upgrades & reinstalls

  • Upgrades. Operating system and software upgrades can cause incompatibilities or Data loss that may not show up right away. Before requesting an upgrade, confirm with the software makers that your programs and devices will still work.
  • Reinstalls. When Windows or macOS is reinstalled, I install the operating system, its updates, and drivers. Reinstalling your other programs, such as Microsoft Office, QuickBooks, Quicken, antivirus, and games, is your responsibility unless it's included in your quote.
  • Licenses. You must own valid licenses for any software installed or reinstalled, and provide the license keys, installation files, or account sign-ins needed. I only install legitimately licensed software.
  • Virus and malware removal. Removing malware can damage programs or Data, and in some cases the only safe fix is a full reinstall. If that happens, I'll quote it before doing it, and the additional work is billed separately.

08Parts, products & returns

  • Parts. I order parts only after you approve them, and you're responsible for their cost. Special-order parts may require payment up front.
  • Old parts. If you want your removed parts back, say so when you approve the repair. Otherwise I'll recycle them.
  • Your own parts. You may supply your own parts. I'll install them, but I don't warranty parts I didn't provide, and redoing work caused by a faulty customer part is billed normally.
  • Returns. Parts or products I sold you can be returned within 15 days if new and unopened. Opened or special-order items have a 20% restocking fee, and some can't be returned at all because of the supplier's policy. Hard drives, SSDs, and memory can't be returned once installed or opened. Used Devices and completed custom PC builds can't be returned, but are covered by the warranty in section 10.

09Liquid damage & high-risk repairs

  • Liquid damage is often permanent. Corrosion can cause new failures days or months after a repair. I'll make a reasonable effort, but I can't guarantee results.
  • Work on liquid-damaged Devices is not warrantied, and the quoted charges apply whether or not the repair succeeds.
  • Some repairs carry extra risk, such as removing glued-in batteries, working on very old or previously repaired Devices, or opening cases that weren't designed to be opened. I'll tell you before starting, and may ask you to sign a release. Work done under a signed release is not warrantied.

10Warranty

  • Labor. Repair labor is warranted for 30 days from pickup. If the same problem returns within 30 days, I'll fix it at no labor charge.
  • Parts. I don't manufacture parts, and parts carry only their manufacturer's warranty. I'll help you with the claim.
  • Custom PC builds. Build labor is warranted for 30 days. Components are covered by their manufacturers' warranties.
  • Not covered: new problems unrelated to the original repair, physical or liquid damage after pickup, liquid-damaged Devices, work done under a signed release, software or settings you change, viruses or malware picked up after service, and Devices opened or repaired by someone else after I worked on them.

11Payment & collections

  • Payment is due when the work is complete, at pickup or return, before the Device is released, unless we've agreed otherwise in writing. I accept card, Venmo, and cash.
  • Prices don't include Tennessee sales tax, which is added to taxable repair, installation, and parts charges.
  • Business clients on approved accounts may be invoiced, with payment due within 15 days. Overdue accounts may pause further work until paid.
  • Hourly work is billed with the stated minimum, then in 15-minute increments.
  • Returned or declined payments are charged a $30 fee, or the maximum allowed by Tennessee law if lower.
  • Balances unpaid after 60 days may be sent to a collection agency or pursued in court. You agree to pay reasonable collection costs and court costs to the extent allowed by Tennessee law.
  • Posted prices may change, but the price on your approved quote is the price you pay.

12Drop-off, pickup & return

  • Drop-off and pickup are by appointment at my home in Spring Hill. The address is shared once your appointment is set.
  • Pickup and return service is $25 round trip in Spring Hill and $35 to Thompson's Station, Columbia, and Franklin. Payment for the work is collected on return.
  • Please remove cases, discs, and USB drives that don't need service, and bring the charger. I'm not responsible for accessories not listed at drop-off.
  • Repairs are done at my bench. I don't perform repairs inside customers' homes.
  • The drop-off area is covered by security cameras for safety and to document the condition of Devices at check-in. By dropping off or picking up, you consent to being recorded there.

13Unclaimed devices

  • I'll notify you by text or email when your Device is ready or when you decline a repair.
  • Devices not picked up within 14 days of that notice are charged a $5 per day storage fee.
  • A Device not picked up within 60 days of the first notice, after at least two more attempts to reach you, is considered abandoned. To the extent allowed by Tennessee law, I may then securely wipe it and recycle, donate, or sell it. You remain responsible for any unpaid charges, and you agree not to hold Side Quest PCs responsible for claims related to abandoned property.

14Cancellations & no-shows

  • You can cancel a drop-off or pickup appointment anytime. Please give a few hours' notice.
  • Scheduled on-site visits canceled with less than 24 hours' notice, or missed, may be charged the cancellation fee listed in your written quote.
  • If you cancel a repair after approving it, you pay for labor already done and any parts ordered for you, subject to section 8.

15Conduct & right to refuse service

  • Because this business runs from my home, the safety of my family comes first. Abusive, threatening, or harassing behavior, in person, by phone, or in writing, isn't tolerated.
  • I may refuse or stop service at any time for work beyond my capabilities, for conduct like that described above, or for any other good reason. If I stop a job, you pay only for approved work already completed.

16Photo scanning

  • What I scan. Loose prints from wallet size to 8×10. Photos must be removed from albums and frames first. I don't scan slides, negatives, or items that are torn, curled, stuck together, or too fragile to feed through a scanner safely. I'll set aside anything that looks at risk and ask you first.
  • Your originals. Prints are returned in the same order and groups you provided. Old prints can be brittle. I handle them carefully, but I'm not responsible for wear to prints that were already fragile, damaged, or deteriorating.
  • Pricing. $0.30 per photo with a $49 minimum, or $149 for up to 500 photos. Counts are based on the number of prints scanned. Backs are scanned at no extra charge.
  • Delivery. Digital files are delivered by private download link, on a USB drive, or both. Download links stay active for 60 days. I keep a copy of your scans for 30 days after delivery in case anything goes wrong, then delete it permanently.
  • Ownership. You must own the photos or have the right to copy them. I don't scan professional prints marked "do not copy" without the photographer's release.

17Business services

  • Business work, including any on-site visits or remote support, is quoted individually and confirmed in writing before it starts.
  • You're responsible for providing administrator access, valid software licenses, and authorization to work on the systems involved.
  • Remote sessions use a secure remote-access tool that you start or approve. I only connect when you allow it, and you can end a session at any time.
  • Monthly plans are month to month and can be canceled with 30 days' notice. Details are set out in a separate written agreement.

18Websites & online stores

  • Deposit. Website and store projects require a 50% nonrefundable deposit to start. The balance is due at launch.
  • Scope. Each project gets a written scope listing pages, features, and the number of revision rounds. Work outside that scope is quoted separately.
  • Your content. You provide text, photos, logos, and product information, and confirm you have the rights to use them.
  • Ownership. Once paid in full, you own your website content and design. Your domain, Shopify store, and hosting accounts are registered in your name and under your control.
  • Third-party services. Hosting, Shopify, domains, apps, and payment processors are provided by other companies under their own terms and fees. I'm not responsible for their outages, price changes, or policy changes.
  • Care plan. The $49 per month care plan is optional, billed monthly, and can be canceled anytime with notice before the next billing date.
  • Search results. I set sites up following search best practices, but no one can guarantee specific Google rankings or traffic.

19Work I won't do

  • Bypass passwords, activation locks, or account locks on Devices you can't show you own or are authorized to use.
  • Install pirated software or remove software licensing or copy protection.
  • Access another person's accounts or Devices without their permission, or install monitoring software on someone else's Device.
  • Any work that would break the law.

20Limitation of liability & release

  • Services come with the warranties in section 10 and no others, to the extent allowed by law.
  • My liability for damage to your Device or Data is limited to damage caused directly by my negligence while performing the work you approved.
  • Side Quest PCs is not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential losses, including lost Data, lost income, or business interruption.
  • For any claim related to a service, my total liability is limited to the amount you paid for that service.
  • You agree to release and hold harmless Side Quest PCs and its owner from claims, losses, and costs arising from services performed, except those caused by gross negligence or willful misconduct.
  • Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under Tennessee law that can't be waived.

21General

  • Governing law. These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Tennessee. Disputes will be handled in the courts of the Tennessee county where Side Quest PCs is located.
  • Severability. If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest still applies.
  • Entire agreement. These terms, plus any written quote, scope, or release for your job, are the full agreement between us. If a signed written agreement conflicts with these terms, the signed agreement controls.
  • Changes. I may update these terms. The version posted on this page when you book applies to that job.
  • Contact. Questions about these terms: text (615) 392-0624 or email support@sidequestpcs.com.
